Until now, doing AML in normal companies was just a formality
Until now, doing AML in normal companies was just a formality. A policy to file away. A checkbox for your accountant. A form nobody ever read again. But that era is over. Across Europe, regulators have shifted from rules on paper to real penalties. AML enforcement has arrived — and it's hitting fast.
2024–2025: The Turning Point
In late 2024, enforcement surged. The Czech Financial Analytical Office (FAÚ) alone imposed 26 fines, mostly on crypto providers (VASPs), each around CZK 600,000 — some reaching CZK 1,000,000.
In 2025, the storm spread to normal businesses. Real-estate agencies, car dealers, and finance intermediaries joined the list. FAÚ issued the largest AML fine so far — CZK 2.4 million — and even banned a crypto firm from operating for a year.
This isn't an exception. It's the new rule.
The reality on the ground
- • 26 fines issued by FAÚ in late 2024
- • Largest fine: CZK 2.4 million in 2025
- • Crypto firm banned from operations for one year
This isn't an exception. It's the new rule.
2026–2027: The Storm Becomes Systemic
Europe is entering the age of centralized AML enforcement: AMLA, the new EU Anti-Money Laundering Authority, is now operational in Frankfurt. The AML Regulation (AMLR) becomes directly applicable from 10 July 2027. And new sectors — real estate, accounting, law, luxury goods, even sports — join the list of obliged entities.
By 2026, national regulators will test every company's readiness. By 2027, enforcement will be unified, digital, and relentless. There will be no local loopholes, no excuses.

The Harsh Truth for Small and Medium Businesses
Most SMEs were never built for compliance bureaucracy. Yet the law makes no distinction between a global bank and a local car dealer.
Typical pain points include:
Each missing file, outdated record, or skipped client check can now mean a fine of hundreds of thousands of korunas — or worse, a business ban. Ignorance is no longer a defense.
